Shujaat swings into action to bring back 'rebels'

Contacts 10 members of Elahi camp; dangles ministries if ruling coalition supported

Amid a widening rift between the Chaudhrys of Gujrat, the Chaudhry Shujaat group has started courting the other faction now ruling Punjab under the blessings of Imran Khan-led PTI.


The Shujaat camp has reportedly contacted ten members of the Elahi faction asking them to swing back to the main party's line as Imran Khan “could not be trusted” while persuading them to consider joining hands with the ruling coalition.


The party chief, in the hopes of roping in those who sided with the PTI against his wish, also dangled the possibilities of being rewarded with portfolios in the provincial cabinet in a prospective power-sharing arrangement with PPP and PML-N.


The development came in the backdrop of reports that PTI chief Imran Khan has greenlighted the formation of the provincial cabinet which does not include a single member of the PML-Q.Shujaat writes to ECPIn a related development, it emerged on Tuesday that the PML-Q chief has also written to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), seeking clarification about what the stipulates about the power hierarchies of a political party.


He has also asked about the details of the assets of PML-Q and the list of office bearers.
